Magnetic quantum number represents the orientation of the orbital wrt to x,y,z axes. For examples "s" orbital has magnetic quantum number of zero , which represents that it has shape spherical .

"p" orbitals have magnetic quantum number ranging from -1 to +1.

If we consider x axis as the molecular axis, then 3px has magnetic quantum number as zero(0).

If z axis is considered as molecular axis, then 3px has magnetic number as +1 or -1.
