तो इसके सबसे छोटी भुजा की लम्बाई क्या है

Solution:

Let "l" and "b" be the length and breadth of the given rectangle respectively.

The area of the rectangle = 360 unit²

∴ $l \times b = 360$

$\implies l = \frac{360}{b}$

The perimeter of a certain rectangle = 76 units

∴ $2(l + b ) = 76$

$\implies (l + b ) = 38$

$\implies ( \frac{360}{b} + b ) = 38$

$\implies 360 + b^2 = 38 b$

$\implies b^2 - 38b + 360 = 0$

$\implies b^2 - 20b - 18b + 360 = 0$

$\implies b(b - 20) - 18(b - 20) = 0$

$\implies (b - 20) (b - 18) = 0$

$\implies b = 20 \:or\:18$

When b = 20 then l = $\frac{360 }{20}$ = 18

Similarly, When b = 18 then l = $\frac{360 }{18}$ = 20

Thus, the length of the shortest side is → 18 units.
