From equation (i) y=24−x

Substituting the value of y in equation (ii) we get

or x2−24x+108=0

or x2−18x−6x+108=0

or x(x−18)−6(x−18)=0

or (x−18)−(x−6)=0

∴x=18 or x=6

if x=18 then y=24−18=6

and if x=6 then y=24−6=18

Hence the dimensions are 18m and 6m
