Answer:

The above reactions are not correct.

i.)

Correct Reaction:

  • Zn + CuSO ZnSO + Cu

Reason:

  • First we all Cu when reacts with ZnSO there will be no reaction because in displacement reaction more reactive element displaces less active element from it's salt solution.
  • Here, we know that Cu ( copper metal ) is below in activity series then zinc so it cannot displace zinc from its salt solution to form the required compound.
  • Now the correct reaction given where, zinc is more reactive element than copper so it displaces copper from its salt solution and forms zinc sulphate.

➤ Zinc reacts with copper sulphate to form zinc sulphate and copper element.

ii.)

Correct Question:

  • Fe + CuSO₄ ➝ FeSO₄ + Cu

Reason:

  • There is no such element as copper sulphite so iron reacts with copper sulphate only.
  • When a few pieces of iron are dropped into a blue coloured copper sulphate solution the blue colour of solution fades and eventually turns into light green due to formation of ferrous sulphate and copper metal is left behind.
  • As iron is more reactive than copper it displaces copper from its salt solution because we know that the more reactive elements displaces the less reactive element from its salt solution.
