Given : A camp having 80 inmates, has food sufficient for 70 days.

To find : How many inmates should leave after 10 days so that the

remaining food lasts another 80 days

Solution :

A camp having 80 inmates, has food sufficient for 70 days.

=> Total Food available = 80 * 70  = 5600 man days

Food used in 10 days  = 80 * 10 = 800 man days

Food left = 5600 - 800 = 4800 man days

Let say inmates left = M

remaining inmates = 80  - M

Food to be survived for  80 Days

Food Required =  (80 - M) * 80

= 6400 - 80M

4800 = 6400 - 80M

=> 80M = 1600

=> M = 20

20 inmates should left
