Given: The age of Mrs. Anjali is 5 times the age of his son. After 12 years the age of Mrs. Anjali will be only twice the age of his son.

To Find: The present age of Mrs. Anjali's son.

Solution:

Let the present age of Mrs. Anjali's son be 'x'.

So, the present age of Mrs. Anjali is = 5x

After 12 years, the age of Mrs. Anjali's son = x + 12

After 12 years, the age of Mrs. Anjali = 5x + 12

It is now said that after 12 years the age of Mrs. Anjali will be only twice the age of his son. So, we can frame an equation from the above information.

         5x + 12 = 2 × ( x + 12 )

     ⇒ 5x + 12 = 2x + 24

     ⇒ 5x - 2x = 24 - 12

     ⇒ 3x = 12

     ⇒  x = 12 / 3

             = 4 years

So, the present age of Mrs. Anjali's son is (A) 4 years.
