Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden, whose length is 4m more than its width, is 36m.

TO DETERMINE

The dimensions of the garden.

EVALUATION

Let width = x metre

Since length is 4 metre is more than its width

So length = x + 4 metre

Again Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden is 36 metre

So the perimeter of a rectangular garden

= 2 × 36 metre

= 72 metre

So by the given condition

2 ( x + 4 + x ) = 72

⇒ 2 ( 2x + 4 ) = 72

⇒ ( 2x + 4 ) = 36

⇒ 2x = 32

⇒ x = 16

Hence width = 16 metre and length = 20 metre
