•Information given:-

i)A molecular formula - c2h4o2 , used as preservative.

ii) A + ethanol -----> B ( sweet smelling).

___________________________

1) A - ch3cooh ( c2h4o2) in dilute form of vinegar.

in dilute form of vinegar. (ethanoic acid)

2) ch3cooh + c2h5oh -------> ch3cooc2h5 +h2o.

( ester )

3) we can get compound A back from compound B by oxidizing it .

ethanol --alk. kmo4---------- ethanoic acid.

c2h5oh ----alk.kmo4-------- ch3cooh.

4) ch3cooh + na2co3 --------> ch3coona + co2 + h2o.

hence carbon dioxide gas is produced.
