Let the total marks be x .
Then passing marks = 36x/100
Marks obtained by the student = 123
Marks by which the student failed = 39
:. passing marks = 123+39
= 162
Then ,
36x/100=162
=>x = 162×100/36
:.x=450
Hence total marks is 450.
