x = 2 and y = 3

GIVEN

Algebraic equation- x + 2y = 8

x + y = 5

TO FIND

To solve the above problem graphically.

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Taking the equation x + 2y = 8 into consideration

Taking x = 0

0 + 2y = 8

y = 8/2 = 4

Substituting y = 0

x + 0 = 8;

x = 8

The two points are A(0,4) and B(8,0)

Taking x + y = 5

Substituting x = 0

y = 5

Substituting y = 0

x = 5

The two points are; C(0,5) and D(5,0)

Plotting the graph we get;

The cordinates of point of intersection are (2,3)

Hence, x = 2 and y = 3
