36. The magnetic field lines associated with current carrying straight conductor is in anti-clockwise
direction. If the conductor was held horizontally along east-west direction, what is the direction of
current through it ? Explain it with the help of diagram. Name and state the rule applied to determine
the direction of magnetic field. If the conductor is held vertically and current flows from north to
south, what will be the direction of magnetic field lines. Draw diagram.

Answer:

Direction of field lines is determined by right hand thumb rule and the direction of current in the wire is along East to west

Explanation:

As we know by right hand thumb rule that if we put the thumb of right hand along the current flowing in the wire then curl of fingers around the wire will show the magnetic field lines direction

So here as we know that magnetic field lines are anti-clockwise around the horizontal wire so we will have to put the thumb along the current of wire in such a way that magnetic field lines or curl of our fingers are along anti-clockwise direction

So the direction of the current in the wire must be along East to West so that the magnetic field lines are clockwise in direction.
