Hello there !!
Take the acceleration of the masses w.r.t lift, so the heavier mass will be accelerated downward and lighter will go upward.
Hence, for heavier mass acceleration will be
(a - g/2) and for lighter mass (a + g/2)
T - 2m*g = 2m*(a - g/2) .....(1)
T - m*g = m*(a + g/2)....(2)
Subtracting (1) and (2) we get:
a = g/2 will be the acceleration of lift.
According to me this is the Answer!! For question 37 .
