Get into nearest 100s, i.e.
497 = (500 - 3)
so, 378× 497
=378×(500 -3)
=189000 - 1134
=187866
497 = (500 - 3)
so, 378× 497
=378×(500 -3)
=189000 - 1134
=187866

Hi students!
There are many methods to solve multiplication problem, but the easiest way is to multiply all the digit one by one. Here is your method.
Firstly, multiply the numbers in unit’s place like 8x7 = 56
Then multiply the tens place of the first number with the unit’s place second number and the first number of unit place and with the ten’s place of the second number.
After this, add the numbers like [(7x7) + (8x9)] = 49 + 72 = 121.
Then multiply the hundred’s place of the first number with the one’s place of the second number and one’s place of the first number with the hundred’s place of the second number and add.
After this, multiply the ten’s values of both the numbers and add this to the sum of the previous two products.
Here is the method; (3x7) + (8x4) + (7x9) = 21 + 32 + 63 = 116
The next step is to x the tens digit of the first number with the hundred’s place digit of the second number and then x the hundred’s digit of the first number with the ten’s place of the second number and also add them like this, (3x9) + (4x7) = 27 + 28 = 55
Then the last step is to multiply the hundred’s place of both the numbers available and the answer will be 12.
Now you will have all the 6 numbers so write them in the reverse order. 12 55 116 121 56
Now write 6 in unit place, 5+1 = 6 in ten’s place, 12 + 6 = 18 where 8 will place in the hundred’s and 1 will be carried.
The 11 + 5 = 16+1 = 17, where 7 in thousand’s place and 1 carried.
Then the remaining 8 will be placed in ten thousand’s place.
Finally, write 1 in hundred thousand’s place.
Your answer will be 187866
4 9 7
X 3 7 8
3 9 7 6
3 4 7 9 x
1 4 9 1 x x
1 8 7 8 6 6
