Explanation:

Transport of water and food is necessary for living of plant. Plants transport water passively and food activity. Phloem transfer food and xylem water. All plants have different strategy for this.

Some of the examples are shear beauty in plant kingdom.

Transport of water is very interesting process in plant. One can imagine the redwood plant which may reach height of almost 100 meter, how plant is transporting water below ground to the apex? If you assume, half of the plant height, roots will be underground. Means xylem is transporting water almost 150 meters! Stomata, the opening on leaves govern water intake by creating suction like pressure. Along with water, minerals also get entry in plant.

Same is with food. Transport of food is more important than water as food is prepared after so much efforts. Generally pholem lies outside in plant stem. Animals like bear may scratch outer surface of plants exposing phloem. This allows valuable food sap to drain and eventually plant may become dead. Years after years, plants have evolved to save and transport water and food.
