Given :-

  • Spring of spring constant 10N/cm is compressed by 2 cm.

To Find :-

  • What its potential energy ?

Solution :-

Given,

  • Spring of spring constant 10N/cm is compressed by 2 cm.

According to the question by using formula we get,

  \qquad\displaystyle \bf P.E _{(Spring)}= \frac{1}{2}  k {x}^{2}

  \qquad\displaystyle \sf  P.E _{(Spring)}= \frac{k {x}^{2} }{2}

\qquad\displaystyle \sf P.E _{(Spring)}= \frac{0.1 \times {2}^{2} }{2}  \:  \:   \:  \:  \:  \: (10cm = 0.1m)

\qquad\displaystyle \sf P.E _{(Spring)}= \frac{0.1 \times 4}{2}

\qquad\displaystyle \sf P.E _{(Spring)}= \frac{0.4}{2}

\qquad\displaystyle \bf  \red{P.E _{(Spring)}= 0.2}

Hence,

The potential energy of the spring is 0.2 J .
