.multiply eq1 by 2 and eq2 by 3

6a+4b=24,6a+ 9b=39

6a+4b=24

6a+9b=39

-. -. -

-5b =63

b=-63/5

put the value of b in eq1

3a+2b=12

3a+2×63/5=12

3a+126/5=12

3a+126=12×5

3a+126=60

3a=60-126

3a=-66

a=-66/3

a=-22

so a=-22. ; b=-63/5
