contact force : Contact force occurs due to the contact between two different objects.

example: Frictional force and Muscular force requires contact between the object and its surface, thus they are an example of contact force.

While magnetic and gravitational forces do not require contact between the two bodies and so are called non contact forces. These force are exerted even if the two objects are separated by a distance r.

Non Contact force : Non-contact force occurs due to either attraction or repulsion between two objects such that there is no contact between these objects.

example: electricity, magnetism, radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, X-rays and gamma rays.
