Given :

  • 3x² - 17x + 24

To Find :

  • Zeroes of the given polynomial by quadratic formula

Solution :

Quadratic formula :

x = - b ± √ ( b² - 4ac ) / 2a

Here

  • a = 3
  • b = -17
  • c = 24

➨ x = [ - ( - 17 ) ± √ ( (-17 )² - 4 * 3 * 24 ) ] / 2 * 3

➨ x = [ 17 ± √ ( 289 - 288 ) ] / 6

➨ x = [ 17 ± √ 1 ] / 6

➨ x = [ 17 ± 1 ] / 6

Case 1 :-

➨ x = [ 17 + 1 ] / 6

➨ x = 18 / 6

x = 3

Case 2 :-

➨ x = [ 17 - 1 ] / 6

➨ x = 16 / 6

x = 8 / 3

Zeroes of the polynomial are -8/3 and 3
