$3x {}^{2} - 2x - 1 = 0 \\ 3x {}^{2} - 3x + x - 1 = 0 \\ 3x(x - 1) + 1(x - 1) = 0 \\ (3x - 1)(x - 1) = 0$

now..

$3x-1=0$

$x=\frac {1}{3}$

And..

x-1=0

x=1
