3x² - x - 4

__________ [ GIVEN ]

• We have to factorise it by splitting method

_____________________________

=> 3x² - x - 4

The above equation is in the form ax² - bx + c

Here the middle term is b = -x. We have to split it like that it's sum came 'b' and product came 'c'.

=> 3x² - (- 3x + 4x) - 4

=> 3x² + 3x - 4x - 4

=> 3x(x + 1) - 4(x + 1)

=> (x + 1) (3x - 4)

____________________________

(x + 1) (3x - 4) are the factors came by splitting the 3x² - x - 4.
