3x+2y=11 -------- i

x-4y =13 ---------ii

Using elimination method...

on multiply the eqn ii by 3

we get,

3x -12y =13-----iii.

eqn iii - eqn ii

3x - 12y = 13 \\ 3x + 2y = 11 \\ ( - ) \:  \:  \: ( - ) \:  \: ( - ) \\  - 14y = 2 \\ y =  \frac{ - 2}{14}  \\ y =  \frac{ - 1}{7}

putting y =-1/7 in --i

3x + 2 \times ( -  \frac{1}{7} ) = 11 \\ 3x -  \frac{2}{7}  = 11 \\ 3x = 11  +  \frac{2}{7}  \\ 3x =  \frac{77 -2 }{7}  \\ x =  \frac{79}{21}
