Given
3x+2y=14
-x+4y=7

multiply 2nd equation with 3
-3x + 12y = 21

add above equation to 1st equation
(3x+2y) + (-3x+12y) = 14+21
14y = 35
y = 5/2

so
-x+4y=7
-x + 4*5/2 = 7
x = 10-7
x = 3
