3x + 2y = 4xy x - 3y = -27xy

  • Divide xy

3/y + 2/x = 4 1/y - 3/x = -27

  • Let a = 1/y & b = 1/x

3a + 2b = 4 _(i) a - 3b = -27 _(ii)

  • MULTIPLY (ii) by 3

3a + 2b = 4 3a - 9b = -81

  • (i) - (ii)

3a + 2b - (3a - 9b) = 4 - (-81)

7b = 85

  • b = 85/7

  • a = -27 + 255/7 = 66/7

  • a = 1/y
  • y = 1/a = 7/66

  • b = 1/x
  • x = 1/b = 7/85
