Multiplying eq 1 by 3 and eq 2 by 2 and adding ,we get

9x +6y = 15

4x-6y = 24

13 x = 39

thus , x = 3

now putting x = 3 in eq 1 , we get

3*3+2y = 5

2y = -4

y = -2

Therefore x = 3 and y = -2
