3x-4y=0 , x-y=-6 pair of equation by substitution method

TO FINd

Find the value of x and y

SOLUTIOn

Given equations

  • 3x - 4y = 0 --(i)
  • x - y = - 6 --(ii)

From eqⁿ (i)

→ x - y = - 6

→ x = y - 6

Put the value of " x " in equation (i)

→ 3x - 4y = 0

→ 3(y - 6) - 4y = 0

→ 3y - 18 - 4y = 0

→ - y = 18

→ y = - 18

Again put the value of " y " in eqⁿ (ii)

→ x - y = -6

→ x - (-18) = - 6

→ x + 18 = -6

→ x = -18 - 6 = - 24

Therefore,

Required value of x = - 24

Required value of y = -18

Form \: eqn(1) ,\: we \: get

\leadsto3x-4=0

\leadsto3x=4

\leadsto x= \frac{4}{3} ---(3)

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

substituting \: the \: value \: of \: eqn (3) \: in \: eqn (2)

\leadsto\frac{4}{3}-y=-6

\leadsto\frac{4}{3}+ \frac{6×3}{1×3}=y

\leadsto\frac{4}{3}+ \frac{18}{3}=y

\leadsto\frac{4+18}{3}=y

\leadsto y= \frac{22}{3} ---(4)

\star \: x=\frac{4}{3}

\star \: y= \frac{22}{3}
