3x+4y=20..........(1) ×2

2x-2y=4.............(2) ×3

multiplying equ (1) with 2 and equ (2) with 3

6x+8y=40

6x-6y=12

subtracting

14y=28

or y=28/14

therefore y=2

putting the value of y in equ 1.

2x-2y=4

or 2x-2(2)=4

or 2x-4=4

or 2x=4+4

or x= 8/2

therefore x= 4
