Find the value of x and y

SOLUTIOn

Given equations

  • 3x - 4y = 10 ---(i)
  • 4x + 3y = 5 ---(ii)

Multiply (i) by 3 and (ii) by 4

  • 9x - 12y = 30
  • 16x + 12y = 20

Add both the equations

→ (9x - 12y) + (16x + 12y) = 30 + 20

→ 9x - 12y + 16x + 12y = 50

→ 25x = 50

→ x = 50/25 = 2

Putting the value of x in eqⁿ (i)

→ 3x - 4y = 10

→ 3*2 - 4y = 10

→ 6 - 4y = 10

→ 6 - 10 = 4y

→ y = -4/4 = -1

Hence,

Required value of x = 2

Required value of y = -1
