3x - 4y = 17 ...............(1)

4x - 3y = 18 ...............(2)

from equation (1)

we have ,

3x = 17 + 4y

x = (17 + 4y )/3 ..........(3)

substituting the value of x in equation (2)

we have ,

4(17+4y)/3 -3y =18

(68 + 16y)/3 - 3y = 18

68 +16y - 9y = 3× 18

68 + 7y = 54

7y = 54 - 68

y = - 14/7

y = -2

substituting the value of y in equation

(3)

we have,

x = [17 + 4 ×(-2)] /3

x = (17 -8)/3

x = 9/3

x = 3

hence x = 3 and y = -2
