Answer:

3x - 5y = 16 -------(1)

x - 3y = 8

=> 3x - 9y = 24 -----(2)

On subtracting equation 1 from 2, we get

-9y + 5y = 24 - 16

=> - 4y = 8

=> y = - 2

Now,

On substituting the value of y in equation 1, we get

3x - 5(-2) = 16

=> 3x + 10 = 16

=> 3x = 6

=> x = 2
