x + 5y = 7     .......2

From the 2nd equation,

x = 7-5y ..........3

Using  equation 3 in equation 1

3(7-5y) - 5y = 6

21 - 15y - 5y = 6

20y = 15

y = 3/4

Using value of y in equation 2

x + 5(3/4) = 7

x = 7 - (15/4)

x = 13/4
