After subtracting these two expressions (-3x - 5y) and (7x + 2y) we get,

or, (-3x - 5y) - (7x + 2y) [make a habit of using parenthesis while doing such algbraic operations, it will decrease the probability of error.]

or, -3x - 5y - 7x - 2y [Be aware of the sign change while opening the brackets, as multiplication of minus sign will change all other signs]

or, -3x -7x -5y -2y [we have brought together the similar variable terms for convenience]

or, -10x - 7y [we have done addition operation with both the terms because of similar variables and sign]

or, -(10x + 7y) [we can take minus sign as common]

Given two expressions are

-3x - 5y , 7x + 2y

i ) subtracting first expression

from second expression,we get

7x + 2y - ( -3x - 5y )

= 7x + 2y + 3x + 5y

= 10x + 7y

ii ) Subtracting second expression

From first expression , we get

- 3x - 5y - ( 7x + 2y )

= -3x - 5y - 7x - 2y

= -10x - 7y
