For elimination method coefficient of one variable should be equal

3x - 5y = 9 (x + 2y = - 4) x 3
3x - 5y = 9 - 1 3x + 6y = - 12 - 2

On subtracting 1 from 2
3x - 5y = 9
- 3x - 6y = 12

- 11y = 21
y = - 21/11
x = - 2/11
