Answer:

3x-y = 10 ...........(1)

x-3y = 18..........(2)

by multiplying 3 in (1) and substracting ,we get

9x-3y = 30

x-3y = 18

- + -

---------------------

8x = 12

X = 12/8 = 4/3

by putting the Value of X in (1) , we get

3*4/3 - y = 10

4- y = 10

- y = 6

y = -6

now,

x-y = 4/3-(-6)

= 4/3+6

= 4+18/3

= 22/3....

hope it helps.....

SOLVING

3x -y=10...........(I)

x-3y=18

(multiplying by 3 on both sides)

3x-9y=54...........(.II)

now from equations (I) and (II), applying elimination......

3x-y=10

3x-9y=18

(-). (-). (-)

__________

8y=-8

y=-1

and ...now putting y=-1 in equation (I)..we get

X=[10+(-1)]/3

X=3

therefore

x-y=3-(-1)=4
