Let us number the equations :

3x-y=3 ........ (1)

9x-y=4 ......... (2)

Taking 1:

\implies 3x-y=3

Taking 2:

\implies 9x-y=4

\implies 9x -(3x-3) =4

\implies 9x-3x+3=4

\implies 6x=4-3

\implies 3x-y=3

\implies 3\times\frac{1}{6}-y=3

\implies y =\frac{1-6}{2}
