Answer:

p = 16/7

Step-by-step explanation:

3x - y = 5  (i)                  4x - 3y = 1   (ii)

Multiply 3 in (i),

3(3x - y = 5)

9x - 3y = 15   (iii)

Using elimination method,

Subtract (iii) - (ii)

( 9x - 3y) - (4x - 3y ) = 15 - 1

9x - 3y - 4x + 3y = 14

5x = 14

x = 14/5

Putting value of x in (ii)

4x - 3y = 1

4(14/5) - 3y = 1

56/5 - 3y = 1

(56 - 15y)5 =1

56 - 15y = 5

15y = 51

y = 51/15

Now,

y = px - 3

51/15 = p(14/5) - 3

51/15 + 3 = p(14/5)

(51 + 45)/15 = p(14/5)

96/15 = 14p/5

p = (96 ×5)/(15 × 14)

p = 480/210

p = 16/7
