Answer:

3x-y=7. (1)

x+4y=11. (2)

x=11-4y. (3) Substituting in (1)

3(11-4y)-y=7

33-12y-y = 7

-12y-y= 7 -33

-13y= -26

y= -26/-13. (minus-minus gets cancelled)

**y=2. Substituting in (3)

x = 11-4(2)

x= 11-8

**x=3

Answer:

3x-y=7

y = 3x - 7 --(1)

x + 4y = 11

x = 11 - 4y --(2)

use (2) in (1)

y = 3(11-4y) - 7

y = 33- 12y-7

y = 26 - 12y

y + 12y = 26

13y = 26

y =26/ 13

y = 2

use y = 2 in (1)

y = 3x - 7

2 = 3x-7

2+7 = 3x

9 = 3x

9/3 = x

x = 3

hence, x = 3, y =2
