Answer:

3x² + 7x + 2 = 0

divide both sides by 3

x² + (7/3)x + 2/3 = 0

x² + 2(7/6)x + 2/3 = 0

a = 1, b= 7/3

now add (b/2)² = 49/36 on both sides

x² + (7/3)x + 2/3 + 49/36 = 49/36

(x)² + 2(1)(7/6) + 2/3 + (7/6)² = 49/36

[x + 7/6 ]² = 49/36 - 2/3 = 25/36

x + 7/6 = √(25/36) = 5/6

x = 5/6 - 7/6 = -2/6 = -1/3
