Given:

\dfrac{3y+1}{4}=\dfrac{1}{5}

What to find?

We have to find the value of y.

Solution:

\dfrac{3y+1}{4}=\dfrac{1}{5}

Using cross multiplication,

⇒ 5(3y + 1) = 4

Remove the brackets,

⇒ 15y + 5 = 4

Take 5 to RHS,

⇒ 15y = 4 - 5

Subtract 5 from 4,

⇒ 15y = -1

Take 15 to LHS,

⇒ y = \dfrac{-1}{15}

∴ So, the value of the y is \dfrac{-1}{15}.
