Hi ,

Given linear equation in variable y is

3y + 4 = 5y - 4

=> 5y - 4 = 3y + 4

add 4 both sides of the equation

=> 5y - 4 + 4 = 3y + 4 + 4

=> 5y = 3y + 8

subtract 3y from both sides of the

equation ,

=> 5y - 3y = 3y - 3y + 8

=> 2y = 8

divide each term with 2 , we get

=> 2y/2 = 8/2

=> y = 4

Verification :

Substitute y = 4 in given equation ,

LHS = 3×4 + 4 = 16

RHS = 5×4 - 4 = 16

Therefore ,

LHS = RHS

I hope this helps you.
