3y²-30y+48 is in the form of a quadratic equation so,we simply factorise it by middle term splitting method or by through by using quadratic formula.

How to factorise..??

3y²-30y+48 =0

taking 3 common

y²-10y+16

The coefficient of y² is 1.

-10y is a middle term and its coefficient is -10

and the constant" is +16

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of y² by the constant 16×1=16

Step-2 : Find two factors of 1 6 whose sum is equal to the coefficient of the middle term, which is 16

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!

So, we use quadratic formula

x= -b ±√b²-4ac/2

a= 1 ,b= -10 & c= 16

y= -(-10)±√(-10)²-4(1)(16)/2

y= 10±√100-64/2

y=10±√36/2

Here,the discriminant b²-4ac is >0

so,there are two real roots

y=10±6/2

y=16/2 or y= 4/2

y= 8 or y= 2
