If it is (3z-1)/5 = (3+z)/7 then,  You cross-multiply and get:  (3z-1)7 = (3+z)5 21z-7 = 15+5z 21z-7-5z = 15 21z-5z = 15+7 16z = 22 z = 22/16 z = 1.375
