Hi ,

√x + y = 7 ----( 1 )

x + √y = 11 ----( 2 )

Subtract equation ( 1 ) from equation

( 2 ),

x + √y - √x - y = 11 - 7

( x - y ) - ( √x - √y ) = 4

[ (√x)² - (√y )² ] - ( √x - √y ) = 4

[( √x + √y ) ( √x - √y )] - ( √x - √y )= 4

( √x - √y ) ( √x + √y - 1 ) = 1 × 4

√x - √y = 1 ------( 3 )

√x + √y - 1 = 4

√x + √y = 4 + 1

√x + √y = 5 ----( 4 )

Add equation ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) we get

2√x = 6

√x = 6 / 2

√x = 3---( 5 )

Do the square of both sides of the

Equation

x = 9

Put √x = 3 in equation ( 1 )

3 + y = 7

y = 7 - 3

y = 4

Therefore ,

x = 9 and y = 4

I hope this helps you.
