question:

4. 300 grams of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it. How much sugar should be added to make

it 50% in the solution?

a) 40 grams

b) 60 grams

c) 80 grams

d) 90 grams

solution:

B

Given:

300 grams of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it.

To find:

How much sugar should be added to make

it 50% in the solution?

step by step explanation:

let us assume x gm of sugar be added.

 \sf sugar = \frac{300 \times 40}{100} = 30 \times 4 = 120gm

according to the question:

  \sf \frac{120 + x}{300 + x} = \frac{1}{2} (cause \: 50\% = \frac{1}{2} )

 \sf240 + 2x = 300 + x

 \sf2x - x = 300 - 240

 \sf x = 60gm

Therefore:

60gm of sugar should be added to make

it 50% in the solution . so , option B is correct.
