4.35 g of a sample of pyrolusite (MnO2) when heated with concentrated HCl gave chlorine.The Chlorine when passed through potassium iodine solution liberated 6.35 g of iodine . The percentage purity of the pyrolusite sample is. No scammers. Or I will report u.

Answer:

Pyrolusite is compound with formula MnO2.

It can react with HCl with chlorine producing:

MnO2 + 4HCl --> MnCL2 + CL2 +2H2O.

The reaction of Cl2 with Ki is next:

Cl2 +2KI=2KCl + I2

Using this equations it is possible to find mass of MnO2

& m 6.35

Cl2 +2KI=2KCl + I2

& 76 254

m=1.9 g

& m & 1.9

MnO2 + 4HCl --> MnCL2 + CL2 +2H2O

& 87 76

m=2.175 g

w=2.175/4.35 * 100 = 50%

Hope this will help you..

Answer:

% purity is the percentage of the material which is the actually desired chemical in a sample of it.

MASS of USEFUL PRODUCT

PERCENT PURITY = 100 x ------------------------------------------------------

in TOTAL MASS of SAMPLE

Here total sample is 4.5 + Mass of Hcl =

4.5 + 1+ 17 = 22.5

And iodine liberated in 6.35 . so now substitiuting the values = 100 x "6.35 /22.5" = 28.2 gm%
