Given,

Mass of the CO₂ gas (m) = 4.4g

Temperature (T)=298 K

Volume (V1) = 2 m³

Volume, (V2)= 5 m³

To find,

Total work performed by the gas (W)

Solution,

As it is given the CO₂ gas undergoes isothermal expansion.

Using the formula,

Work performed by the gas (W) = NkTln(\frac{V_{2} }{V_{1} } )

Number of moles in 4.4 g of CO₂=44 g/moles

∴N=44

On substituting the values, we get,

Work performed by the gas (W) = (44)(1.38×10^{-23})(298)ln\frac{5}{2}

⇒W=44×1.38×10^{-23}×298×0.92

⇒W=16646×10^{-23}J

Hence, the total work performed by the gas is 16646×10^{-23}J
