let total distance be 3d

time taken to cover 1/3 distance= d/20

time taken to cover rest of the diatance=2d/60=d/30

total(average) speed=total distance cover/total time taken

=3d/(d/20)+(d/30)

=(3d x 60 )/(3d+2d)

=(3 x 60)/5

=3 x 12= 36
