Answer:

i) 10 m/s

ii) 25 m

Explanation:

Given:

  • Initial velocity (u) = 0 m/s   (as it was at rest)
  • Acceleration (a) = 2 m/s²
  • Time (t) = 5 seconds

To find:

i) Velocity acquired (v)

ii) Distance travelled (s)

Method to find:

We can find the velocity acquired by using Newton's 1st equation of motion.

v = u + at

⇒ v = 0 + (2*5)

v = 10 m/s

We can find the distance travelled by using Newton's 2nd equation of motion.

s = ut + 1/2at²

⇒ s = (0 * 5) + (1/2 * 2 * 5 * 5)

⇒ s = 0 + 25

s = 25 m

(We could have also used the 3rd equation of motion i.e.,

v² = u² + 2as)

Hope it helps!
