time taken from a to b = x/ 20 seconds
time taken from b to a = x/30 sexonds
average speed = 2x ÷ x/20 + x/30
= 2x÷ 5x/60
= 2x * 60 /5x
= 2*60/5 = 24m/s
hence, the average speed of bus is 24 m/s
