4. A can do a piece of work in 16 days and B in 20 days. They worked together for 4 days and then
B leaves. In how many days will A finish the remaining work?​

It is mentioned that

(i) A can complete the work W in 16 days. Hence,

(ii) A in 1 day can complete the amount of work = W/16

(iii) B can complete the work W in 20 days. Hence,

(iv) B in 1 day can complete the amount of work = W/20

(v) After working together for 4 days A leaves.

(vi) Let D denotes the time (in days) that B will take to complete the remaining work of W.

From (vi), (v), (ii) & (iv) we get following relation,

4*(W/16 + W/20) + D*W/20 = W

or 4*(1/16 + 1/20) + D/20 = 1

or D/20 = 1 - 9/20 = 11/20 or D = 11 (days)
