therefore 8+10=18 Km

let  AB be 18 km

now, 2 km west

so from B to C the distance is 2km

we have to find AC

Using pythogorus theorum we can find AC

(AC)^2= (AB)^2+(BC)^2

(AC)^2= (18)^2+2^2

(AC)^2= 324+4 = 328
